January 12, 2012
Brothers and Sisters,
The membership of UAW Local 1069 has, once again, shown their dedication to performance and commitment to excellence with the announcement of the awarding of 7 days pay for 2011 through the Performance Incentive Plan (PIP). The PIP was negotiated in 2009 by the leadership to reward the members with a program that more accurately reflected their performance and contribution to the continued success of the Ridley Park site. Since the onset of the program, 1069 members have provided with an additional 21 days of pay for their diligence.
This success shows that, no matter what the circumstances, our members perform to the highest standards in the aerospace industry as we remain the Rotorcraft Supplier of Choice. That honor is due to the individual effort by every member to overcome the daily obstacles they face as we seek to deliver our aircraft on schedule, at or under cost, and defect-free. Each day, barriers such parts shortages, discrepant vendor work, and other problems hamper our efforts, but we persevere. That commitment to excellence is demonstrated every day. As we begin 2012, we aim for an increased payout in 2013.
The payout will be distributed through a separate Direct Deposit on 2/23/12. If you do not have Direct Deposit, the check with be mailed to your home address.
Other positive money news has the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) moving up to a total of $.77 per hour since the beginning of our contract with the announcement of a 2 cent increase last Friday. Every quarter, represented members can add a little bit onto their hourly rate through COLA. Those small increases add up, as they are multipliers for overtime hours, vacation, and future contractual raises.
As your President, it has been very gratifying for me to see our members at the forefront of the charge to keep our site as one of Boeing’s best performing divisions. I am proud to serve this membership, and look forward, together, to maintaining our prosperity in the future. Thanks for all you do!
Don’t forget the General Membership Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 10 AM. We hope to see you there!

In Solidarity,

October 3, 2011

Brothers and Sisters,

By now I’m sure that all of you are aware of the situation that occurred at our plant last week. I’d like to take this opportunity to speak to both you the members and to all employees here at our Boeing Philadelphia Facility. In the past we have faced many different crisis over our years together and we have always prevailed. The leadership of Local 1069 can assure you and your families that our Union will work side by side with the Company to address this crisis together.

This situation is part of a global epidemic that is affecting people in all walks of life. As many of you know, there is a very dedicated Employee Assistance Program in place for both union and salary employees. Don’t hesitate to contact Company EAP Rich Buxton at 1-5800, or UAW Local 1069 EAP Pat Hoffman at 1-3471, if you are having issues in your own life. Along with the Company, we will be at the forefront in an effort to secure a truly drug free workplace at Boeing Philadelphia.

The employees involved in this circumstance represent less than 1% of the workforce in Philadelphia. This problem will not in any way, undermine or deter our commitment to our customers, especially our troops in the field. Together we will continue to build the world’s best Rotorcraft, as we have done for the past 55 years. I urge each of you to stand united and support each other as we make our way through this difficult time.

In conclusion, I ask all employees in the Ridley Park plant to support the leadership of UAW Local 1069 and The Boeing Company. The decisions that will be made will certainly have your best interest at heart. As we move forward from here, I know that we will continue to be the best workforce in the world!

In Solidarity,

Christopher Owens, President

In response to the recent Daily Times article (Monday, August 15, 2011) on proposed defense budget cuts to the V-22 Osprey program, as well as other defense programs, we have continued our ongoing discussions with our Congressional representation, including Congressmen Bob Brady and Pat Meehan, as well as Senator Pat Toomey to once again fight to keep our work intact.

Our Local’s history has shown many instances in which our membership has had to battle proposed cuts to our programs. Be assured your leadership will continue to fight along with our Political allies to combat this situation. We will walk the halls of Congress like we did 20 years ago and do what ever is necessary to keep our jobs secure and our members working. The Boeing Company also realizes the negative repercussions of this situation and has joined in the effort.

I’m asking that each member and family Stand United as we again battle the short-sighted Congressional leadership that seems intent on lowering our nation’s proven defense assets, again! We will keep you updated with any new information.

In other current union news, Local 1069 have been supporting the ongoing labor action by our brothers and sisters of the Communications Workers of America Local 13000 against Verizon. Our fellow union members and their Unit President Joe Kincade Jr. have stated, “It’s about protecting the middle class jobs we have spent 50 years creating.” (CWA website). Our Local has been supporting this job action by walking alongside CWA members at different locations being picketed by the striking workers. We ALL need to Stand United and fight every effort by Corporate America to take away our way of life.

The American Red Cross sent their thanks for our members’ support of the recent Blood Drive at Boeing. Good luck to all the Red Cross workers in their quest for a fair and equitable contract.

The new Veteran T shirt order form being circulated through the shops was released with an incorrect figure for the cost. The actual cost is $15.

Union members seeking to enroll in a Family Medical Leave of Absence (FMLA) can pick up forms at the Local 1069 Hall. Contact your Union rep or call 610 876-6217.

Brothers and Sisters,

After initiating dialogue with the company in regards to Material Support Training, we are happy to announce this training will be taking place. In the past, many of you have submitted transfer requests, only to be told you didn’t have the qualifications.

The off-hour course will consist of 10 modules intended to allow individuals the opportunity to obtain the skill and ability to qualify for Material Support positions. The first class will be for those of you on first shift followed by a second class for those on second shift. The class only has capacity for 10 people at a time. If more than 10 people are interested, they will be taken in seniority order.

At your Leaderships recommendation, the Company has agreed to this training program. This training is a great opportunity for those of you looking to go into the Material Support classification. Please take advantage of this opportunity by contacting Dave Rackham @ ext. 3514 or Tim Bell @ ext. 8871 for start up dates and times.

We have been having conversations with the Company concerning the hardship situation for the last 6 months. While the company has just shut down hardships, we have been persistent in our discussions to obtain relief for our members in need. I am proud to tell you that our persistency has paid off. The company has agreed to establish criteria that will allow our members with specific needs to adjust their start times. Please be sure to check with your Union Representative for information regarding hardships.

Reminder

Don’t forget to put your transfer requests in for Aircraft Technician Training
