UAW Local 1069

September 9, 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are all deeply saddened by the sudden passing of two very loyal 1069 members, great employees, and exceptional friends to all. Walt Sarlo (Inspector-Final Assembly) passed away on August 29, 2021 and Rick Taylor (Assembler-Sheetmetal “A”) passed away on September 2, 2021. Please keep them and their families in your prayers.

We remind ALL members that we will resume our membership meetings beginning Sunday, September 26, 2021. This meeting will be important, as they all are. We will be holding nominations at this meeting for our General Election, which will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. We very much look forward to seeing all of you in attendance.

Also, the Boeing Helicopter Credit Union (BHCU) will be sponsoring their “Member Appreciation Day” at their location at 501 Industrial Highway, Ridley Park, PA 19078. This event will take place from 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Food will be provided by “The Boss with the Sauce” food truck. Please make a note of this date and time.

Lastly, there have been some rumors and confusion among some employees in the plant regarding the COVID-19 vaccine status. At this present time, The Boeing Company is NOT mandating this vaccine. As I stated in my previous Chopper, our position stands that this Company must bargain with us to mandate this vaccine, meaning your UAW Local 1069 Leadership Team believes this will constitute a change in “condition of employment.” Our current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) does not reflect any mandatory vaccination.

Remain united and stay UAW 1069 strong

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We are certain by now our Local 1069 members were informed that The Company updated their mask policy to “mandatory” face coverings for all employees currently working on-site when indoors. It was effective Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Of course, we are not pleased with their decision. I did meet with Company Leaders and was informed this decision is Enterprise-wide. I was told the reason was due to “surges” of outbreaks related to COVID-19 in the state of Pennsylvania and other areas where Boeing performs work. In addition, I learned that The Company “anticipates” the COVID-19 vaccine could receive Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approval sometime in September 2021. If the vaccine does receive FDA approval, The Boeing Company will then “evaluate” whether or not to mandate the vaccine Enterprise-wide. Of course, if this does take effect, your UAW Local 1069 Leadership Team will certainly explore ALL legal avenues and, will most certainly require The Boeing Company to bargain with UAW 1069 for this potential change in “condition of employment.”

Also, as we have discussed with our members many times over, in regards to our talks with Company Leaders regarding rectifying or eliminating the “Table II” pate rate scale, we have come to an impasse. We have asked The Company to now provide answers to ALL grievances we have filed related to these issues so we can move forward in the process of correcting this “catastrophic” situation. When we receive the answers to these grievances, we will inform our membership of the resolutions and how we intend to proceed.

Lastly, our Committeeman and 2nd shift Shop Steward in our Facilities and Maintenance Departments have gathered substantial information on subcontractors who, in our opinion, have been abusing their clearance status in our factory. Some of these “outside” companies have been using photos of our products in various areas of our buildings to promote their businesses. We feel this is illegal and unethical. Also, we have demonstrated the lack of completed work by the janitor sub-contractors in the areas they were tasked to work. This information has been forwarded to the senior managers in charge of our Maintenance groups to no avail. We have now submitted this information to our site leaders, including our Labor Relations group here in Philadelphia/Ridley Park.

Our message remains clear, eliminate the Table II pay scale disaster and eliminate all sub-contractors that stray through our factory.

Reminder: When the need arises for Shop Steward representation please request your Steward through your manager or any manager that is available. Our Shop Stewards have a 40-hour production bar line or assigned work tasks in their respective job classifications.

Continue to remain united and stay strong. We can and will accomplish what we need to if we all stand together.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We recently received a communication from our UAW International President, Rory L. Gamble “allowing” local unions to reconvene local meetings and events. With responses from many of our members, and a unanimous decision by the entire Executive Board, we have decided to adhere to past practice and suspend our membership meetings scheduled for July 25, 2021, and August 22, 2021. We will resume our membership meetings beginning September 26, 2021. At our September meeting, we will hold nominations for our General Election and get membership approval for the date and time of this election. Thanks to our Brothers and Sisters who provided feedback on this decision. Enjoy your upcoming vacations and what’s left of your summer.
In addition, we continue to remind our Brothers and Sisters to please DO NOT buy any work or operations that you did not perform. DO NOT work on or “job-in” to jobs or operations that require certifications that you do not possess. Most importantly, DO NOT be pressured or bullied by managers to do any of the above-mentioned responsibilities. Please immediately request union representation if any of these issues arise. You can and will jeopardize your livelihoods, and most importantly, the safety of our military men and women who fly in our aircraft.
Also, we are happy to announce that we will be hosting our “UAW Local 1069 9th Annual Golf Outing” on August 27, 2021. This event will take place at Rock Manor Golf Club at 12:00 PM (registration will begin at 10:30 AM). The cost for this event will be $130.00 per person, $520.00 for a foursome. The golf package will include 18 holes of golf (with cart), bag service, range balls before “shot-gun” start, BBQ buffet (following golf), unlimited beverage service during golf, and beverage service up to 1.5 hours after golf (during the buffet). All proceeds will go to “Operation First Response.” Please see Jason Bonacquisti, Matt Rogers, or any other member of our Communication’s Committee for further details.
Lastly, Brookhaven Optical was on-site this past Monday, July 19, 2021, meeting with employees who scheduled appointments to obtain prescription safety glasses. Due to the overwhelming demand for appointments, they will notify The Company to set up additional visit dates. For more information and to schedule a future appointment contact: Emily Myers (emily.myers2@boeing.com or 610-392-8849) or Allen Kramer (allen.r.kramer@boeing.com or 610-591-3197).
