Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are certain our UAW Local 1069 members, as well as your Bargaining Committee are very much looking forward to a new start in 2018. We do anticipate better things to come. We have been notified by The Boeing Company that they are in the process of starting the “recall” procedure into “Aircraft Technician”, preparing to start contacting laid-off and/or labor pool employees for the newly created “Modification Mechanic” classification, and continue the recall of employees back to the “Composite Fabrication” organization. Your UAW Local 1069 leadership has continued to work hard with this Company to hurry along this process. We all look forward to a much brighter year in 2018 and for many years to come.
As we begin to have recalls in some of our surplused classifications, we hope and anticipate there may be hiring opportunities in other jobs we currently have in our factory. We have been working closely with managers and our HR Department in assisting employees moving to other positions but we are discouraged by the practices of some of our managers who are responsible for hiring. Your UAW leadership strongly feels that there are some managers in our plant that are not capable of managing our skilled employees due to a variety of reasons. We also are of the opinion that some managers hire based on relationships and partiality. We will continue to work these issues with management and HR in correcting these on-going problems. That being said, we continue to stress the importance of requesting union representation if and when any employee goes to an interview for any position that he or she applies for. Again, REQUEST UNION REPRESENTATION WHEN INTERVIEWING FOR ANY JOB THAT YOU APPLY FOR AND REQUEST UNION REPRESENTATION WHEN PARTICIPATING WITH ANY INTERVIEW WITH COMPANY REPRESENTITIVES. We want to ensure these interviews are conducted fairly and are completely unbiased.
Lastly, your Bargaining Committee would like to wish all of our Sisters and Brothers a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Please be safe. We look forward to seeing all of you next year.
In Solidarity,
Michael Tolassi
President
